Ode to Melbourne

Writer: Elana MonteleoneElana Monteleone

There was a time,

when my city had a heartbeat.

I loved it then.

Sipping coffee while exploring graffiti laden laneways,

sitting amongst 60,000 fans screaming carn the Blues!

even when we were tipped to lose...

spending hours in the State Library,

surrounded by students and books,

before a dumpling lunch in China Town,

and boutique shopping to find a new look.

There were buskers on Bourke Street

beating drums and singing songs,

the sound of tram bells and traffic

and Southbank Promenade walk-alongs.

Rooftop bars serving cold beers,

live music met with cheers,

yeah, I remember -

those were the good old years.
